A book that takes you on a 40-day spiritual journey that makes you look at your life from a spiritual perspective. Reading through this book you see how professional sports personalities can live spiritual lives even with the busy schedule they have with their professional careers.
Not being "into" sports should not deter a person from reading this book. Even though you may not be a sports fan you can still relate to many of the ideas put forth in this book. I found myself looking forward to reading about each of the different sports personalities mentioned in the book.
This book offers a true inspiration for any reader.

New Year
Happy New Year's from Manitoba.
It's hard to believe we're almost halfway through the first month of 2011. The days seem to fly by with little being accomplished (maybe not little, but definetly not as much as we'd like).
Nevada has grown and keeps growing every day, seems like there is some little thing that changes about her every day. I especially have enjoyed seeing her change in reactions to people she knows, how she responds differently when Cheryl Lynn or I are watching as opposed to when she thinks she's alone.
With this New Year, I've decided to embark on a new adventure, teaching computer workshops for adult students. We had to cancel the first session due to stormy weather, but hopefully today, the 13th of January, we can make it.
I'll try and have a blog post for how well, or how flopped the workshop turns out being.

School has officially begun
I had my first Art classes today. They were fun to say the least. I had the students make line drawings by revealing small sections of a picture a little at a time. To avoid them "guessing" how something should look I had the picture upside down as they were drawing so they had to concentrate on what they could see rather than what they "thought" they should see.
Grade 1 to 3's drew a grumpy, short, fat, old man. while the Grade 5's drew a backpack.
Since students are eager to take home their original pieces and these were 8 1/2 by 11 I scanned them into my computer and printed them out for display. They are a representation of the real thing but at least the students got to take their art work home.
Two statements that students made to me today that had me chuckling.
- One student was late getting work done, and made this comment. "Tomorrow I won't dream, I'll just work"
Another student had a number line to count on. when asked to count backwards from 15 to 5 gets this puzzled look and replies "I would, but I don't have enough fingers."

Back Again - Changes
Good day everyone
It has been a long while since I have spent time updating this Blog. So many things have happened since my last post (A whole year has gone by) Below are just a few of the major events that took place the past year.
My wife and I were blessed with a wonderful addition to our family. We were blessed with a baby girl, Nevada Justine Waldner, born on the 25th of July 2010.
We've also moved into a mobile home that I spent my summer fixing up.
I was part of a planning committee that hosted an educator's conference, known as the International Conference of Hutterite Educators, or ICHE for short. Also, during the summer I participated in a 3-day institute on teaching in the outdoor classroom.
There are a multitude of other events that took place in the past year, but they would simply be too numerous to mention in one post.
As the school year progresses I hope to find (or take) more time to keep this blog updated.

Book Review - Obstacles Welcome, by: Ralph de la Vega.
Obstacles, challenges, trials, everyone has them. But how do we deal with them? This could well be the question you are faced with. When reading this book you will find how you can face challenges in practically an situation and find ways to overcome them and learn from them in order to become a better person. Whether business or personal, Ralph de la Vega explorers how obstacles he faced, both in business and personal life and shows through anecdote how to face those obstacles and become a better leader and person. Starting with his journey to the United States as a young boy to his current position of President and CEO of AT&T Mobility and Consumer Markets, de la Vega shows how the obstacles he faced helped him become the leader that he is.
As an educator and a married man, I am placed into the position of leader on a daily basis. Reading through de la Vega’s book had me constantly thinking how well I could implement his suggestions and ideas into my personal and professional life. I found it greatly interesting learning not only how to be a better leader, but also in learning about some of the details of the workings of a cellular company. Although the word religion is rarely used; honor, integrity, leadership, credibility, and perseverance and faith in the most demanding of challenges are but a few examples of how the ideas in the book fit solidly into the Christian perspective. I found it an awesome experience to read and learn about leadership, and how dealing with challenges gives you the insight and education you need in order to become a better leader and to climb higher in the leadership ranks.

New School Year
As I keep planning and getting materials ready for the new school year, I can't help but get excited and geared up to create even more stuff to use in the new year. The latest creation is a SMARTBoard lesson outline / Activity that I can use as an introduction to Animal Adaptations in the Habitats unit I am going to be teaching in Grade 4.

Introduction

With my second year as a teacher about to start, I find that it is time that I set up a blog account where I can share ideas, creations, and thoughts about my job and myself.
First a little about myself as a teacher:
I am a second year teacher at the Maple Grove Coony School. Our school is located on the Hutterite colony where I currently reside. I graduted from the BUHEP (Brandon University Hutterite Education Program) in 2008, with a Bachelor of General Studies degree, as well as a Bachelor of Education degree. The BUHEP program was started to accomodate the Hutterite communites that were looking to enrol their own members in an education program. This program allowed us to spend a large chunk of the school year (September to May) in our home schools (each Hutterite colony has their own school on their colony) and then we would spend three months (May to July) taking courses at the university. The courses would run every day for 1.5 hours, three days a week, for six weeks so that we could get the required 36 hours. The courses were taught by professors from the university, and the only difference from regular courses being that the workload was more condensed.

The first few weeks I have been working on planning out the school year I have made the introductory lesson for a Grade 4 Habitats and Communities Unit for the SMARTBoard. Feel free to download and use in your classroom.
